Scholarships, Cadetships and Internships
Scholarships are sponsored by individuals, businesses, government, industry groups, community groups, universities, private colleges and TAFEs to assist students with the financial burden of studying.
Types of Scholarships:
Equity-based scholarships are designed to support students who are:
Experiencing financial hardship
Facing barriers to education due to systemic discrimination or disadvantage
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
Regional, Rural and Remote students
If you are applying for one of these scholarships, you may need to provide documentation showing that you meet the equity group criteria.
Merit-based scholarships support students with a record of high academic achievement or who have demonstrated talent in a particular field e.g. sport, science or art. If you are applying for a merit based scholarship, you may need to provide certified documentation of academic results to show that you meet the merit-based criteria.
How do you find a Scholarship:
If you know the area of University, TAFE or College you wish to attend it is often best to search their websites for scholarships and sign up to their email service.
Your local industry groups or businesses may be offering scholarships; ask around in your area and let your friends and family know you are looking. We sometimes hear of local opportunities being missed by students because the message didn't get to the right people. Many employers offer cadetships/internships.

Important Information regarding Gap Year and Applying for Uni – Scholarships
Students planning on taking a gap year should apply for university this year and if accepted into a course they can then apply for deferment for 12 months. Some universities will allow you to apply for scholarships in the year preceding your course commencement but others only accept scholarship applications from current Year 12 students so you would need to apply while in year 12 and then defer your scholarship as well as your course. Consider the scholarships that you would like to apply for and contact the institutions to ask if you need to apply this year or next.
